Anger and Forgiveness
Path to “hell” or gateway to “heaven”
November 18-19
Chicago, IL
Two-day workshop with David Daniels, M.D.
Anger can be an incredibly constructive force in our lives. Or it can destroy. Anger can be a force for the conversion of energy to our best self or tear our relationships apart.
What is anger’s function in our lives? What causes it or drives it? How can we understand it and identify its manifestations? And most importantly, how can we use anger in the service of our psychological and spiritual development on the path to forgiveness, the profound letting go of grievances or chronic anger? Ironically, each type holds specific resistances to forgiveness that are tied to the type’s survival strategy. What are the barriers to forgiveness? What are the costs of holding grievances and resentments? What often is taken as forgiveness but is not? And how can you work with the barriers to forgiveness?
This workshop not only explores these crucial issues, but also provides ways to befriend, understand and work constructively with each type’s anger and forgiveness issues. You can expect to change your relationship to anger, understand each type’s anger responses and resentments, and gain the benefits of forgiveness, and along with this, heightened inner freedom and calm. The workshop is designed for all who want to deepen and enhance their relationships including your relationship with yourself, partners, family members, close work associates or significant friendships. It also will help you to better deal with anger in chance and casual encounters.
The workshop will include brief talks, inner practices, practical exercises, discussion and panels in the Narrative Tradition with guided interactions. In preparation, reflect on one anger behavior or pattern of resentment in your life you know would be good for you to change. We recommend some prior knowledge of the Enneagram.
