The Keys to Transforming Leadership
Presence and Managing Personal Reactivity
July 25-26, 2006
Dublin, Ireland
Two-day workshop with David Daniels, M.D., presented by the Burren Leadership Forum
What causes limits in our leadership effectiveness and, at worst, causes us to fail at our leadership? What actions and attitudes would benefit others and ourselves in the workplace? What are the essential ingredients for lasting and meaningful leadership transformation? Without the understanding of presence and personal reactivity, its meaning, and its management, truly effective leadership remains hidden.
In this workshop we will start with personal presence/receptivity and its central role in each type's personal reactivity, the things that "push our buttons" and result in personal defensive reactions that we deplore in ourselves. Then, the very nature of these reactions and their embedded meaning will be explored, how these meanings represent the deepest barriers to change, and how to access and befriend these type specific barriers. Herein lie the hidden keys to lasting and meaningful leadership transformation and effectiveness. Given these keys, we will explore what is required of each type to evoke and maintain lasting change. This path might be called "Enlightenment on the Hoof."
The workshop will employ brief lectures, guided self-observation practices, practical exercises, panel work in the Narrative Tradition of the Enneagram types speaking for themselves, interactions, and discussion. Some knowledge of the Enneagram is important preparation.
