Wednesday evenings, 7-9 pm, starting October 15 (no class on November 26) The Enneagram is a powerful way to understand ourselves and the people in our lives. Knowing our own patterns of personality, and those of our partners, family members and colleagues is invaluable in creating more successful relationships. People in many countries around the world find it enormously helpful in developing empathy and rapport, learning to communicate better and to resolve conflict. If you know the Enneagram, you know how helpful it can be! In our fall panel series, we will explore the role of projection – one of the major ways that relationships go off track. Each personality type has a particular way of misreading reality through projection. In a positive projection you seem to be the source of my well being, while negative projections cast you as causing my distress. Each type projects but with a different scenario. For example, Threes see approval for accomplishments, Sixes perceive the problems and pitfalls, and Nines see others' agendas as a way of forgetting their own. Especially when emotions run high, our projections intensify until we are caught in a subjective illusion that looks accurate, truthful and well reasoned. The basic projection for all types is that we attribute our own feelings to the other's intentions. "You are the cause of how I feel." In this class, we will discuss the patterns of each of the nine personality types and how we can come back to a more centered state, learning to distinguish projection from what is really happening. We'll look at how we can relax our type structure and type bias, improve our relationships and develop inner freedom. The format includes panel interviews, guided inner practices and breakout groups.
