If you are seeking a foundation in the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition, the Core Program is the place to begin. Whether you are new to the Enneagram or a long-time student, this program provides a unique, life-changing experience that will deepen your understanding of yourself and others.
The Narrative Enneagram Core Program starts with Enneagram Intensive, which is open to all and provides the basis for the other two core courses: Instincts and Subtypes and Deepening Spiritual Awareness. Each of the three courses includes panel interviews in the Narrative Tradition, somatic exercises, and the practice of self-observation and inner awareness. You may begin this program without a commitment to take all three courses.
After completing the Core Program, you may choose to continue with the Enneagram Professional Training Program, which now offers two certification tracks – one for aspiring Enneagram teachers, and one for practitioners who work one-on-one with clients. Those interested in being part of an ongoing group dedicated to personal development and lifelong learning can join our Narrative Enneagram Learning Community.
Thanks to our generous donors, a limited number of scholarships are available.

Part 1 and Part 2 – 3 days each
Our premier offering, Enneagram Intensive, offers a deep, transformative experience of the Enneagram, focusing on the integration of psychology, spirituality and somatics. This updated course offers a full examination of the nine distinct type structures, with expanded attention to the spiritual and somatic aspects of each type. Another key element of the training is how the types show up in relationships.
The first three days have been redesigned to include refinements to the basic proposition (psychology), the basics of self-reflection (spirituality), and body awareness (somatics).
The final three days are devoted to your path of self-development. You will learn the defense systems for each Enneagram type and how to work with your own patterns of reactivity. You also will be encouraged to find the aspects of your own type that offer opportunities for growth and transformation. We will explore the following questions:
Enneagram Intensive includes two rounds of type panels in the Narrative Tradition, an introduction to the Universal Growth Process, guided interactions related to current relationship issues, pre-recorded meditations by Helen Palmer, short didactics, self-observation and movement practices, and small-group exercises.

Every person has three instincts (self-preservation, one-to-one and social), but one of these tends to be more central in our daily lives and relationships. This primary instinct determines our Enneagram subtype.
The three instinctual drives include:
These energies combine with the nine personality types to create 27 variations. At the intersection of archetype and biology, the study of subtypes holds the key to understanding our path in life and our role in the human community. How do we spend our time and energy in daily life? Who are the people who are most important to us? How are we invested in home, neighborhood, politics, or religious activities? How do we express ourselves physically and emotionally? Many people have found that subtype differences can be more crucial than personality type issues in our relationships.
Through panels, presentations and small groups, we will explore the 27 instinctual subtypes, including:
If you don’t know your subtype, you will likely discover it during this core program. The format includes presentation and discussion, small groups, subtype panels in the Narrative Tradition and somatic exercises.
Prerequisite: Enneagram Intensive 2.0
Note: Ideally, Enneagram Intensive 2.0 is the best place to begin our Core Program. However, we understand that many students have prior knowledge of the Enneagram, so this course also is open by permission to intermediate and advanced Enneagram students who have studied with other teachers. Deepening Spiritual Awareness is focused on the transformative potential of your own type structure for higher levels of being. Our format blends the profound somatic practice of grounded presence with contemplative methods for emptying and focusing the mind.
These “skillful means”build an inner capacity to recognize and relax emotional passions as they arise – thus “converting vice to virtue” – the pure life force that sustains us.
These spiritual activities will be debriefed from different type perspectives through panel interviews in the Narrative Tradition, short didactics, inner practices, somatic exercises and small groups.
“Deepening Spiritual Awareness helped bring a needed focus to my spiritual exploration. In particular, the attention paid to the concepts of grounded presence and receptivity emphasized for me the importance of being more fully present to life, which has allowed me to develop a deeper compassion for myself and for others. My spiritual inquiry continues, and I am so grateful to have the Enneagram alongside me on this journey.”
